Furry motorsport club Name TBC
Why I'm doing this
I'm Ook. I marshal, I co-drive, and I ran a race team for three seasons. Every time I'm out there I think the same thing. Loads of us would love this and hardly any of us know where the door is.
So I'm starting a club. Recognised by Motorsport UK, run by and for the fandom, open to anyone who's decent. Events will often line up with cons and meets.
Right now I'm looking for expressions of interest, and for the first 25 members who'll help get it off the ground.
What we'll do
- Night navigation. A map, a torch, a car and a mate. You work out the route, they drive it.
- 12-car rallies. Small navigational events on public roads at legal speeds.
- Scatter rallies. A list of clues and locations, a time limit, and you pick your own route to get as many as you can. Think treasure hunt with a car.
- Marshalling. Helping run events, ours and other people's.
- Trips out. Organised trips to motorsport events, so you're watching with your people.
- Other motorsport stuff!
Why join
Motorsport is more reachable than you think. Most of this runs in the car you already drive. No roll cage, no race licence, no big budget. If you've got a licence and a road-legal car you can probably do it. Motorsport UK's StreetCar scheme shows what's out there.
You don't need a car to start. Navigators don't drive. Plenty of people start in the passenger seat with a map and never leave.
Marshalling is the best seat in the house. It's free, you get trained, and you're closer to the action than any spectator. Motorsport UK covers marshals with accident insurance when they sign on. And no event runs without marshals, so you'll be wanted everywhere.
It's a skill you get to keep. Map reading, car control, staying calm when things go sideways. It carries over into everyday driving.
It's better with your people. Walking into a motor club where you know no one is hard. This one starts with friends.
Membership is free, and events are run at cost or free where possible. Drivers, navigators and volunteers all count the same.
Why help
To be recognised by Motorsport UK we need at least 25 members, a committee and a safeguarding officer. Those first 25 are what get us started. That's what unlocks insurance, permits and proper events. The people who help set it up get to shape it.
Registering interest doesn't commit you to anything.
